About Wales Against Animal Experiments

Our story

Wales Against Animal Experiments (WAAE) was formed in 2023 by a small group of dedicated people living in Wales. We have striven to foster a movement that challenges out-of-date and unreliable science and advocates for modern, human-relevant research methods. We are active on several social media platforms and have a growing social media following.  Our Facebook group acts as an information hub, with 16 guides containing information, facts and resources.  WAAE collaborates with and supports other animal protection groups and organizations, and is a member of the Alliance for Cruelty Free Science.   (Visit our Facts/Info page for background info on vivisection)

Challenging the status quo

Wales Against Animal Experiments is challenging the idea that  animal models represent a 'gold standard'.   

The vast majority of animal procedures do not result in breakthroughs or even advances in human medicine.  Biological species differences in anatomy, organ structure and function, metabolism, chemical absorption, genetics, DNA repair, etc mean that animal data is unreliable.  A growing body of research documents the failure in translating results from animal studies into treatments for humans.

 

Apart from causing unnecessary animal suffering, such experiments are time-consuming, costly, and prevent progress that could result from more human-specific methods, known as NAMs. 

The Welsh Government should prioritize and fund these new technologies, and by so doing set an example for industry and the charitable sector.

We envision a Wales where scientific progress is achieved using science based on human biology.   (See our Objectives for how we are trying to achieve this.)
